Our Pastor
My name is Rhonda Newby-Torres and I am honored to be the new lay Pastor for Lutheran Campus Ministry of NM serving at Luther House. I am excited to walk with the young leaders at Luther House to do God's "hard work of love" in the UNM and CNM community. I'm looking forward to a year of growing deeper in the Spirit and faith in action with Luther House. If you are interested in learning more about Luther House, please PM, call, e-mail, drop by or join us for a shared meal on Wednesdays at 6pm.
Here's a little more about me: I am a mother, preacher, teacher, learner, activist, herbalist, pastor and so much more! Just like all of you, I live out numerous roles that intersect into my unique place in this world. I recently graduated from an ecumenical Master of Theology program and I'm currently seeking ordination in the United Church of Christ. I specialize in ministry that builds bridges between churches, spirituality, academia, activism, and the streets. I believe we are all called to priesthood and service, prayer and action, deep listening and restorative justice. I spent many years as a Community Organizer and Co-Director of East Central Ministries, which is where I was "raised-up" in community-based Christianity. I followed my call (after 2 years of discernment) to seminary and a professional role as the Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries for First Congregational UCC, where myself and my family continue to worship. I'm excited to partner with Lutheran Campus Ministries in our commitment to living as the body of Christ, working together as siblings, sharing an open table, loving God, and loving people. I'm grateful for this meaningful opportunity and journey in/toward/with the beloved community. I can't wait to learn a little more about you! Blessings, Rhonda Newby-Torres (she/her/hers) #ecumenismisthefuture #progressivetheology #holytroublemakers |
